Carey Cox
Carey Cox is an actor and storyteller originally from El Paso, Texas. She earned her BFA in musical theatre from Santa Fe University of Art and Design, followed by an MFA in acting from UNC Chapel Hill, where she performed with the acclaimed PlayMakers Repertory Company. After graduating, Cox moved to New York City to pursue her acting career. She began identifying as a disabled actor after being diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which impacted her mobility and led her to use mobility aids.
Cox’s career spans film, television, regional theater, Broadway and off-Broadway. Her breakthrough came in 2017, when she understudied the role of Laura in Broadway‘s “The Glass Menagerie,” later stepping into the role as a principal at the Guthrie Theater. Recently, Cox landed her first on-camera lead in the feature film “Where Did the Adults Go,” directed by Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Courtney Marsh, slated for a 2025 premiere. In 2023, she starred in the off-Broadway revival of “God of Carnage” with Theater Breaking Through Barriers; and in 2022, she showcased her talents as both a writer and performer in the Viacom/CBS “Diversity Showcase.”
In addition to acting, Cox is an accomplished playwright and screenwriter. Her work has been featured at venues such as Queens Theatre, Lincoln Center, and the Bird Festival. She and her husband, fellow disabled actor and writer Joseph Kibler, earned a Best Writer nomination for their short film “Adoptive” at the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge. Beyond the stage and screen, Cox is a skilled guitarist, a trained visual artist, and an advocate who values community and volunteer work. She and her husband, Joe, are excitedly preparing to welcome their first child.
