The Handmaid's Tale
Max Minghella is a British actor and filmmaker. He is widely known for playing Nick Blaine in the critically acclaimed Hulu series “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Created by Bruce Miller and based on the bestselling novel by Margaret Atwood, the series is set in the totalitarian society of Gilead which treats women as property of the state.
Minghella recently directed his sophomore film, psychological thriller “Shell,” which premiered this year at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film stars Elisabeth Moss, Kate Hudson and Kaia Gerber, and was produced by Range Media Partner’s Fred Berger.
Minghella recently appeared in Damien Chazelle’s “Babylon” alongside Tobey Maguire, Meryl Streep and Margot Robbie. He can also be seen in Lionsgate’s “Spiral” opposite Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson and Marisa Nichols. The latest installment of the “Saw” franchise was released in May 2021 and follows the story of a detective who finds himself in the midst of the infamous Jigsaw’s deadly games.
Minghella’s directorial debut, “Teen Spirit,” starring Elle Fanning and produced by Automatik and Interscope Records premiered in theaters April 2019. Fanning plays the role of Violet, a shy teenager looking to break into the world of singing accompanied by an unlikely mentor. In 2016, Minghella wrote and produced Alexandre Aja’s “The 9th Life of Louis Drax.” The thriller/mystery stars Jamie Dornan, Aaron Paul, Aiden Longworth and Sarah Gadon.
His other acting credits include George Clooney’s “The Ides of March,” Alejandro Amenabar’s “Agora” and David Fincher’s “The Social Network.”
Minghella attended Columbia University and the National Youth Theater in London. He resides in both London and Los Angeles.
