KEEAN JOHNSON has had an arts-focused trajectory his entire life. From professional dancing to photography and acting, Keean captivates audiences any time he showcases his diverse talents.
For his breakout film role, Keean starred in 20th Century Fox’s highly anticipated action film, ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, directed by Robert Rodriguez and produced by James Cameron. This globally praised visual adventure was released in early 2019, and Keean played the lead male role of Hugo alongside Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz and Jennifer Connelly. The $200 Million budget film was based on Yukito Kishiro’s popular Japanese manga, Gunnm.
Keean will next be seen starring alongside Eiza Gonzalez, Wesley Snipes and Terrance Howard in CUT THROAT CITY – directed by RZA. This action-drama film is about a major heist set in the lower ninth ward in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. The film is due for release in Summer 2020.
Earlier this year Keean completed shooting Hulu’s original film, THE ULTIMATE PLAYLIST OF NOISE. Starring alongside Madeline Brewer, Keean plays the lead role of Marcus, an audio obsessed student who learns he will soon be deaf.
In late 2019, Keean was seen co-starring in Roland Emmerich’s ensemble war film, MIDWAY, for Lionsgate. Recounting the story of the battle of Midway, Keean’s co-stars included Woody Harrelson, Luke Evans, Patrick Wilson, Aaron Eckhart and Dennis Quaid. In what was clearly a massive year for the emerging star, Keean also starred in A24’s drama-thriller LOW TIDE which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
Making a brief jump from film to television, Keean could be seeing recurring in the first season of HBO’s “Euphoria,” with co-stars including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi.
Other recent and upcoming film credits include WE SUMMON THE DARKNESS and EMPEROR.
As a younger actor, Keean was on the hit NBC series “Nashville” as Colt Wheeler, and he had a recurring role on the popular Freeform series, “The Foster.” Prior to Keean’s on-screen success, he was in the hit Broadway musical BILLY ELLIOT, which went on to win the Tony for Best Musical in 2008. He continues to dance professionally and recreationally – in addition to his passions of making music, photography, and art.
Keean currently resides in Los Angeles.
