Hulu, Film2Future and The Jed Foundation Partner to Empower the Next Generation of Storytellers
November 14, 2019
Hulu, Film2Future and The Jed Foundation have teamed up to inspire Los Angeles youth to tell their stories by creating ads for the Hulu platform.
Through the partnership with Hulu and The Jed Foundation, Film2Future students were challenged to create, film and edit a public service announcement ad spot that aired on Hulu in recognition of World Mental Health Day.
Film2Future is an organization dedicated to building diversity in the entertainment industry by empowering underserved Los Angeles youth through an intensive filmmaking and life skills curriculum. Over the course of three weeks, Film2Future students were given the opportunity to utilize the state of the art facilities of Deutsch and Steelhead to produce ads spots as part of the summer program, with an emphasis on Mental Health Awareness. The partnership stemmed from Hulu’s commitment to help the next generation of youth reach their fullest potential and allowed students to learn more about what happens behind the scenes at Hulu, and gain valuable experience with content creation.
The ad spots aired on Hulu from October 10th-16th, and topics ranged from the importance of being kind to others to what to do if you are feeling overwhelmed. Each spot ended with a link to a custom landing page created for the campaign by the Jed Foundation, a nonprofit that protects the emotional health of teens and young adults. Here, visitors to the website could find resources on how to cope with challenges and stress, or reach out and get support.
To celebrate and showcase the students’ hard work on the ad spot PSAs, Hulu and Film2Future hosted a Screening & Awards Gala at Hulu Headquarters in Santa Monica, and handed out awards for “Best Concept,” “Best Original Script,” “Best Editing,” “Best Visual Style,” “Best Use of Audience Engagement,” and “Best Empathy.”
You can view the PSAs on the Jed Foundation website by visiting the links below or visiting jedcares.org/hulu.
Congratulations to all the students who participated!
