The Third Installment of ONSTAGE with Phoenix Live Today on the Hulu VR App
February 28, 2018
As Virtual Reality becomes more accessible through the upcoming release of new headsets like the Oculus Go and Google Daydream Standalone headsets, we at Hulu are exploring how this medium can enhance the world of content and entertainment.
Imagine watching your favorite characters and shows in a completely immersive experience – one that transports you [temporarily] into new, and exciting worlds. Through new advancements in VR, our product team is bringing viewers to the next level of content. Whether it involves transporting you to a fan-favorite concert venue like the House of Blues to watch your favorite act, or putting you in control with a choose-your-own-adventure experience like Door No. 1, the possibilities in the world of VR are endless.
That is precisely the goal of ON STAGE, our first, multi-part VR series in partnership with Live Nation. By partnership with the world’s leading live entertainment and ticketing company, we are setting out to utilize advancements in VR to bring music fans closer to their favorite acts. And, ultimately, to create a first-of-its kind, premium music experience.
We have already let fans walk alongside Major Lazer as they explored the history of dubstep in the streets of Jamaica, and fans of Lil’ Wayne were offered a glimpse into his world as he shared his personal passions and inspirations.
Today, we’re releasing the latest installment of ON STAGE – which will give music fans a closer-than-ever look at Grammy Award-winning artists, Phoenix.
As a band, PHOENIX has always embraced a slightly “off,” quirky distortion of interpretation and perception. It permeates their songwriting – singing in English but allowing the mistakes and misunderstandings to survive because of their charm and rhythmic qualities. It has also been a touchstone of the approach to the albums – the creation of specific sound and visual palettes that are typically some reinterpretation of a certain inspiration(s).
In the episode, the viewer travels to Phoenix’s hometown of Versailles, then joins them on stage in London’s Alexandra Palace.
Check out the new episode today in the Hulu VR App. You can also view all episodes of ON STAGE in 2D today on Hulu.
The Hulu VR app is available on Daydream, PlayStation VR, Samsung GearVR with Galaxy S6/S7, Note 5 Phones, Oculus Rift and Microsoft Mixed Reality headsets, with additional platforms to come soon. In addition to Hulu’s extensive library of virtual reality content, Hulu subscribers can stream Hulu’s entire library of 2D content, including current season content, past seasons of hit shows, movies and Hulu Originals, in immersive 3D environments.
