MC Lyte a legend in the world of music and entertainment, and is also a formidable actress on television and in film. Most recently booking a series regular role on the 2019 pilot “New York Undercover,” she has recurred on “S.W.A.T,” “Power,” and “Queen of the South.” Lyte’s film roles include acclaimed Sundance Winner Patticakes, Girls Trip, the upcoming Loved to Death, Sylvie’s Love with Tessa Thompson and Eva Longoria, and Bad Hair from writer/director Justin Simien.
MC Lyte is an iconic, trailblazing entertainer, rapper and DJ. With hit albums, singles, awards and a groundbreaking music career spanning 30 years, this Hip Hop LEGEND is the first female rapper ever to be nominated for a Grammy Award, perform at Carnegie Hall, and earn a gold single. A true pioneer in the music industry, MC Lyte has also performed at the Kennedy Center Honors and the White House for President and Mrs. Obama.
In addition to a busy on-screen career, Lyte’s production company, Sunni Gyrl, Inc., has several television and film projects, both scripted and unscripted, in various stages of development. Her voice work is well known, representing dozens of Fortune 500 companies, and she is the voice of the BET Awards and the NAACP Image Awards.
Author, motivational speaker and philanthropist, MC Lyte has written books and speaks globally on inspiring topics from her vast knowledge of the entertainment and hip hop industries, to entrepreneurialism and economic empowerment. Her charity, “Hip Hop Sisters Foundation,” has presented over $1,000,000 in scholarships and has launched the “Women, Wealth & Relationships” initiative and The W.E.A.L.T.H. Experience to help empower women and create mentoring groups for young girls in South Central Los Angeles.
