John Hoogenakker has joined Hulu’s limited series “Dopesick.” He joins previously announced star and executive producer Michael Keaton.

Based on Beth Macy’s New York Times bestselling book of the same name, the eight-episode limited series takes a probing look into the epicenter of America’s struggle with Opioid addiction in Western Virginia. Hoogenakker will star as Randy Ramseyer, an Assistant US Attorney investigating the pharmaceutical company manufacturing OxyContin alongside Peter Skarsgard and Rosario Dawson.

Slated to premiere in Fall 2021, “Dopesick” is written by Danny Strong (“Empire”) and directed by Academy Award-winner Barry Levinson (“Rain Man”). They will executive produce alongside Keaton, John Goldwyn (“Dexter”), Warren Littlefield via The Littlefield Company, Macy and Karen Rosenfelt (“Twilight”).

Hoogenakker is best known for his role as black ops CIA operator Matice in Amazon’s “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” opposite John Krasinski. He was also recently seen as Carl Wilkes in Hulu’s “CastleRock” as Lizzie Kaplan’s father as well as her “number one fan.”
