Coogler’s first feature film, Fruitvale Station, won the top audience and grand jury awards in the U.S dramatic competition at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. He has since co-written and directed the seventh film in the Rocky series, “Creed,” and the Marvel film “Black Panther,” which broke numerous box office records, became the biggest domestic release of 2018, and the first superhero movie nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Coogler’s films have all received significant critical acclaim and commercial success. In 2018, Coogler was named a runner-up of Time’s Person of the Year and he was included in the annual Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world. Earlier this year, Coogler produced Shaka King’s “Judas and the Black Messiah,” which won two Academy Awards and was nominated for six, including Best Picture.
