Peter Gallagher is an American actor, musician, and writer, who has played many notable roles in numerous Hollywood films and television since 1980.

On television, Gallagher currently stars as Mitch in NBC’s new musical series, ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST alongside Jane Levy, Lauren Graham, Mary Steenburgen and Skylar Astin. The series is set to premiere on January 7th. Gallagher also recurs opposite Jane Fonda on Netflix’s longest-running original tv series GRACE & FRANKIE. Season 6 will premiere on Netflix on January 15th.

Gallagher starred as Sandy Cohen in the television drama series THE O.C. from 2003 to 2007, as well as his recurring role as Deputy Chief William Dodds on LAW & ORDER: SVU. Gallagher also played Arthur Campbell, CIA boss on COVERT AFFAIRS. He has guest-starred on favorites such as THE CONNERS, NEW GIRL, THE GOOD WIFE, and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER.

In film, Gallagher made his debut in Taylor Hackford’s THE IDOLMAKER and has done over 50 films since, including SEX, LIES & VIDEOTAPE, THE UNDERNEATH directed by Steven Soderbergh, and THE PLAYER AND SHORT CUTS directed by Robert Altman, which received a Golden Globe in 1993. Gallagher received a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role as Buddy Kane in the Academy Award® winning AMERICAN BEAUTY. Most recently, he had a supporting role in the film HELLO MY NAME IS DORIS opposite Sally Field and Max Greenfield. Additional credits include DREAMCHILD, HIGH SPIRITS, WATCH IT, THE HUDSUCKER PROXY, WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING, TO GILLIAN ON HER 37TH BIRTHDAY, THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO LITTLE, CENTER STAGE, MR. DEEDS, BURLESQUE, CONVICTION, ADAM, and STEP UP REVOLUTION. Gallagher also appears in the upcoming American romantic comedy film, PALM SPRINGS, that will premiere at The 2020 Sundance Film Festival.

His theatre credits include musicals and plays, having starred in award-winning Broadway productions of GUYS AND DOLLS (receiving a Drama Desk nomination), LONG DAY’S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT (with Jack Lemmon, receiving a Tony Award nomination), THE REAL THING (Clarence Derwent Award), THE CORN IS GREEN (Theatre World Award), NOISES OFF and THE COUNTRY GIRL.
